McClatchy vs. River City Boys’ Varsity Soccer

The McClatchy boys’ soccer varsity team had a match against River City to take home the Metro League title earlier this Tuesday. It also was McClatchy’s senior night, with 14 amazing seniors leaving the field this year with a great future ahead.

The game started with McClatchy having the ball for kickoff. They started strong and maintained control over the ball. The boys had a big section of supporters on the other side of the field, cheering them on as they kept possession among the other team. River City came in hot with their tackles while getting frustrated with the McClatchy boys’ talent.

McClatchy had to play their match not only against River City but also against the referee; it was a hard game to work through while the referee made unfair calls against McClatchy, allowing their opponent to gain ball control a few times. But the boys did not let that stop them from playing their game.

The first half ended with a score of 0-0, with the crowd cheering them on. They all headed over to their coaches to have a brief discussion with their team about what they could be doing better and what they had done so far 40 minutes into the half. The whistle blew to alert both teams that they would begin the match soon. The second half started with River City kicking off, but they didn’t keep the ball for long as McClatchy gained control over the game, taking them into River City’s half of the field and having shots on goal back to back.

A mistake happened with McClatchy’s defenders, which led to a goal for River City. It was unfortunate, but McClatchy took that into their own hands, knowing that they needed to score as soon as possible. McClatchy had a corner kick on River City’s side, giving them a better chance to score. McClatchy did not happen to score on the first corner kick, but then River City got a touch on the ball, leading us into another corner kick. They played the ball short to Emilio Godnick, who dribbled past 2 defenders and sent a beautiful ball to the center of the box, giving Nathaniel Ochoa a chance to score. He did it with a volley straight to the back of the net, too fast to get a reaction out of the goalkeeper. The boys all gathered around, cheering each other on while heading back to their side of the field.

It was such a nail-biting moment, knowing that both teams were tied 1-1 with River City and McClatchy desperately wanting to win the game for our seniors! Minutes went by and BAM, McClatchy was in their box once again, and everyone was in a scramble trying to get the ball in the goal while it was being kicked around and blocked. But then there goes Angel Mendoza-Ramirez, another senior, with the goal that hit the post and crossed the line. Everyone waited with such intensity to see if the referee would count it, and he did! The crowd erupted while Angel and his teammates gathered to run to their coach and cheer. The score was now 2-1, and McClatchy was up by one goal with 5 minutes remaining.

The whistle blew, and the boys started yelling and cheering, just as the parents did the same. They got together and formed a line to say good game to River City as they headed home, number 1 Metro League Champions, and with 2 seniors leaving the field having accomplished what they needed to do it was a great game for the boys’ varsity soccer team. Now, they head off to the playoffs.

How-to-Cheesecake

Today I will be showing you how to make this delicious cheesecake that my dad and my aunts have shown me how to bake. It is a delicious but different kind of cheesecake, the recipe has been passed down to me by my family.

TOOLS:

• bowl

• mixer

• spoon

• store bought pie crust

• blender

 INGREDIENTS:

• 5 eggs

• 1 condensed milk (as much as you think you’ll need)

• 1 can of evaporated milk

• 1 bar of cream cheese

• vanilla extract (as much as you think you’ll need)

BEFORE MAKING THE MIXTURE:

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees

STEP 1:

Add in all the ingredients in a medium/ Large bowl

STEP 2:

Mix it all together with a mixer

If the consistency looks like this with cream cheese chunks in it still

STEP 3:

You get out a blender and pour it all into the blender so you get a better consistency of the mixture. Blend until you think it is good enough.

STEP FOUR:

Take out your pie crust, two of them

STEP 5:

Pour the mixture of the cheesecake into the pie crust evenly

STEP 6:

Once they are both evenly poured into the pie crust you can now put them in the oven, preferably the middle rack

STEP 7:

Bake for 45-48 minutes, you need to take it out and check on it once it hits the 45th minute and if it needs more time pop it back in for another 2-3 minutes

STEP 8:

Take them both out and let them chill in the fridge/freezer for a bit

STEP 9: ENJOY!!

Fall Activities

Here are a few activities that I like to do during the fall when I am bored or when I want something to do. Even if it’s super cold outside, there are still many things to do for fun especially if you’re just at home on your bed just laying there out of boredom.

One of the things I love to do most is as soon as October is over and it hits November 1st, I go straight to looking online at some stuff that interests me so that I can keep it in mind or screenshot it and put it on my Christmas Wish List. Yes, it’s true, I started on my wishlist at the beginning of November, there’s nothing wrong with that. It just gives me some ideas of what I want. It’s a good way to keep you busy while window shopping if you like to do so.

Another thing I love to do during the fall is go on walks. I like to stroll around my neighborhood and listen to music, preferably calmer music. I like morning walks or afternoon walks, during this time of the year is the best time because of the weather and the scenery. It feels good to go on a walk when it is about 60-68 degrees outside and the sun is out but just not all the way out and then there’s a nice cool breeze that hits your back. And then you can go back home and take a warm shower and relax. On top of being soothing, it helps you get your steps in.

One other thing that I do during fall is clean my room, and not just clean but deep clean it. I like to get rid of all my summer clothes and take them to a storage center. Then I also go through my clothes and donate whatever I don’t want anymore. It’s a good way to get rid of clothes and help others simultaneously. Cleaning my room brings me peace, especially when I am listening to music and being productive. I feel like I just achieved the biggest thing to ever exist on earth. When you are finally done cleaning, you can light a candle for the finishing touch and lay down and relax while watching a movie.

I think a good thing to do during fall is bake, experience some new recipes, experience, or add to your baking skills. I usually throw on some Christmas music and bake a batch of cookies while having a Christmas movie playing in the background. It is a good way to keep you busy and you can also have your siblings or your parents or family come and join you. They can learn the different types of ways that you can make a cookie, it’s a good bonding experience with family and friends.

The second to last thing that I do during the fall would be to have a movie marathon, whether it’s by myself or with friends and family. Watching movies usually takes up a lot of the day so I like to start the movie marathon around 6 pm after I have finished what I had to get done. I am not picky about the movie, though I do love to watch all the Harry Potter movies during the fall until Christmas.

Finally, the last thing I enjoy doing during fall is journaling. The weather is beautiful, the feeling of it just being fall brings it all together. Journaling can be relaxing and it can help you a lot with stress and anxiety. Writing whatever you want and putting all your thoughts and feelings down on paper makes you feel like you no longer have anything to worry about. It brings me peace like I have no more worries that are weighing down on my shoulders.

Halloween Favorites

Halloween Favorites of 2023 this year are all about the costumes and candy.

The best Halloween candy that is being passed out from every neighborhood, in my opinion, is Candy Corn. They have Halloween colors on the candy, they smell so good, and they come in huge bags.

Candy Corn is a very big debate about whether they are good or not. Some people hate them and some that enjoy this candy. The texture is odd but I like that it doesn’t dry out your mouth like other candies and chocolates would. They also sport the Halloween colors. I mean come on orange, yellow, and white are a part of Halloween colors.

A lot of people think it tastes like cardboard but I’d say they’re wrong, I think it tastes like a marshmallow, just with a different texture. It has a plastic taste to it, but a good type of plastic taste. Not a lot of people pass this candy out, but I’ll go out of my way to get it at the store. A big bag of them too. It also looks sort of like corn.

Now onto the best costume Idea I have seen or heard of this year, the one and only Justin Bieber. People go all out for these costumes, they do their makeup, and the Justin Bieber one just gets me every time, they usually use his 2015-era style. White jeans, a white jean jacket, a purple hoodie, his purple hat, and his all-white shoes with the mic. They even put their hair swished to the side.

I also have seen people making a costume dressed up as the people from the Avatar movie. They make it look so surreal with the blue-painted body and the ripped clothing pieces. It just amazes me to see how many people are that creative to think of such things.

Store-bought costumes are not my favorite because they’re not very creative. Instead of thinking of what you want to be and getting all the materials and the items together. Making time to create the final look and piece it together piece by piece trusting the process along the way is what makes them feel accomplished at the end of everything.

I’ve also seen a lot of people dressed up as the character The Nun and scaring people with groaning sounds and running towards them. They even leave behind fake pieces of body parts.

It’s so cool to see how many creative people there are out there to come up with all of these costumes to be worn outside publicly. My favorite so far though is the Justin Bieber costume.
