Holly Jolly Saving

With Christmas around the corner and festivity in the air, you’re probably thinking about presents, decorations, and getting into the Christmas spirit.

While to most, this time of year seems like a winter wonderland, to others, it could represent other things.

According to the National Retail Federation, the average American spent $862 on gifts, food, and decorations. This doesn’t even account for the gas it takes to go get these things, the time and energy put towards setting up, and other miscellaneous expenses.

With inflation on the rise, many families across the country experience a disadvantage when it comes to the holidays.

This article is here to show you that you don’t need a lot of money to transform the space around you into a Christmas wonderland.

The supplies you will need are colored construction paper, scissors, shiny straw cleaner, tape, string, and different colored Sharpies. You can find all of these things at your local dollar store.

For our first decoration, bend the shiny straw cleaner into a Christmas-themed shape such as a snowflake, snowman, gingerbread man, Christmas tree, wreath, or snow angel. Then tie a string around it so you’re able to hang it up.

For the next decoration, take your scissors and a piece of white construction paper and fold it in half repeatedly 3 times. Then take your scissors and cut in different shapes while being careful not to cut it in half. Once you unfold it, you will have a snowflake that you can hang with string.

Another decoration you could do is take your paper and use the Sharpies to draw on designs. Then cut them out and attach them all onto a string to create a lanyard.

The easiest decoration you could do is to turn the straw cleaner into your own custom ornaments.

Lastly, take some green construction paper and cut out lines with the paper facing up long ways. Then use the tape to turn them into circles, making sure they interlock with each other. Once you have the length you are happy with, make one last circle connecting both ends.

Bend the straw cleaners into ornament-like shapes and attach them, which will leave you with a homemade wreath.

To get a warm and cozy Christmas experience, you don’t need to spend a lot of money. With the right mindset and putting time and energy into creating your desirable setup, it can happen.

If you put some Christmas music on and get to work, the holiday paradise of your dreams isn’t out of reach!

Celebrating 100 Years of Disney

On October 16th Disney celebrated its 100th anniversary. With this huge milestone let’s take a look at the creations and impacts of Disney and what’s to come in the future.

Disney has created hundreds of fictional characters for their stories with the most notable being Mickey Mouse, but when exactly did Mickey Mouse come to light?

Mickey first appeared in his iconic steamboat intro in 1928. While most believe that Disney created this infamous character that isn’t the truth. Ub Iwerks created Mickey who then sold the rights to Disney.

Mickey’s character design originated from the very first Disney character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

The very first Disney Princess was Snow White in 1937. This was then followed by Disney’s version of Cinderella, and then Aurora more commonly known as Sleeping Beauty.

Through Disney’s empire, they have created 494 Movies, many show series, and twelve theme parks worldwide.

To help celebrate this milestone Disney has created a fun game where you have to collect 6 different character cards weekly, on the app TikTok.

They also decided to release to the public a newly restored 4K version of the movie Snow White. Along with that was a short film titled, Once Upon a Studio, which featured all of the Disney characters coming together to take a picture.

Disney owns a variety of different content, like Pixar, National Geographic, Star Wars, and Marvel.

In 2024 Disney will release new movies like a new Planet of the Apes, and a live-action prequel to The Lion King, which shows Mufasas and Scars’ relationship prior to Mufasa being king.

Disney is worth a whopping 153.24 billion US dollars which will probably only go up due to their services like Disney+ and all of the future content they will create.

Disney cares so much about consumers’ experiences that they have created new colors for their theme parks to help people fully be entranced. “Go away Green” is put onto things like light poles and trash cans which makes them not stick out to the eye.

From fairies, and dragons, all the way to aliens Disney has created characters that have become something special to people across the globe all starting back to the man himself, Walt Disney.

Walt Disney’s creations have had an impact on families’ lives worldwide for the last 100 years, helping create memories and spark imagination, so one can only wonder what will happen in the next century.

Frantic Over Fentanyl

With Fentanyl overdoses on the rise, there are a few things people need to understand.

What exactly fentanyl is, how it’s affecting people, how to know if someone is overdosing, and how to help that person.

According to the Centers for Disease Control Fentanyl is an opioid that is 100 times more potent than morphine and produces a similar effect as heroin. Typically, it’s prescribed by an authorized official or doctor for illnesses such as cancer and post-surgery.

Although it is prescribed by doctors, that is only one kind of fentanyl. There are two types of fentanyl, pharmaceutical fentanyl and illegally made fentanyl, or (IMF) for short.

IMF is added to other drugs to increase their potency of them resulting in a more intense high. Most of the United States’ illegal fentanyl is imported anonymously from China.

There are multiple ways that people intake fentanyl. Examples of this are inhaling it, smoking it, swallowing the tablet, in patches, and mixing it with other drugs.

The IMF is a rapidly growing concern here in the US. The CDC reports that there are over 150 synthetic opioid deaths each day. The government program Get Smart About Drugs (GSAD) reports that for Americans aged 18-45, fentanyl overdose is the leading cause of death.

The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) states that only 2 milligrams of fentanyl is lethal. That is approximately the size of Lincoln’s nose to chin on a penny.

Each year there has been a gradual increase in the number of deaths related to fentanyl. According to statistics from UC San Francisco in 2021 around 6,000 people overdosed on fentanyl in California alone, some of which were children.

With the more and more deaths caused by synthetic opioids, we must know what a drug overdose looks like and how we can help without putting up a risk for our own safety.

The DEA says to look out for these warning signs of overdose. Small shrunken pupils, falling asleep or losing consciousness, slowness, weakness, no breathing, choking, limp body, cold sweaty skin, and skin discoloration mainly in the lips or nail beds.

Now that we know what to look out for we need to know how we can help which can be tricky sometimes especially since most overdoses are unexpected.

A useful tool for situations like these is naloxone, more commonly known as Narcan. When someone is overdosing on fentanyl you don’t want to give them mouth to mouth as that opens up an opportunity for you to overdose. Instead, inject the Narcan into their nose and wait 2 minutes. If they don’t respond to the first one, Administer a Second Dose. Another important step to never forget is to call emergency services for help.

Now that we know what fentanyl is and what to do in the situation that someone is overdosing we are educated on what to do in times of crisis which unfortunately is the reality we live in today.

DIY Halloween Decorations

With Fall around the corner that means we’re inching closer to Halloween. Who doesn’t like to show their spooky spirit and decorate their house or room. With prices on the rise, that could be hard for some people as most Halloween decorations will run up your wallet.

In this article, I will be teaching you how to do a couple of DIY decorations starting with the easy ones and then moving on to the slightly more complicated ones.

Some of the things you will need for these are black and white balloons, black and white streamers, white cloth, string, black paper, scissors, and finally tape. These are things you can get at any time at the dollar store or scattered throughout your house.

For our first decoration, you’re going to want one of your white balloons, blow it up, and then drape the cloth over it for your very simple fake ghost.

For our second one, you are going to have to grab a black balloon and blow it up. Then grab the white streamers and wrap it around the balloon using the tape to hold it still, till it’s fully covered, leaving two openings for your eyes. Once you’re done you will have a mummy head.

Next, grab 2 black balloons and start blowing them up leaving one a little bit smaller than the other one. Once you do that grab a little bit of tape to hold them together and grab your black streamers. Then rip off eight black streamer lines and attach them to the balloons to create a giant spider.

Something you can do to add to the previous one, to give it a little extra spazz, is to grab your black or white streamers and tape them up to form a spider web design on your wall.

For the next decoration, you’re going to have to grab your black paper and use a pencil to trace the outline of a bat. Using your scissors cut them out and tape them to your ceiling or wall for some spooky spirit.

Using your black paper cut out a piece of paper that resembles a donut, you can pick whatever size you think is fitting. Next cut out a piece of paper and roll it into a cone. Using your tape attach them together finally using your scissors to get out any imperfections. This will give you a witches hat you can put on anything like your pumpkins or yourself.

For our last decoration grab your streamers and crumple them up into eight balls. Cut up your cloth into mini squares and drape them over the balls. Use a long piece of string to secure the cloth to the heads and now you have a streamer of mini ghosts.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I think everyone should get the joy of decorating with their family and friends even if you don’t want to drop hundreds of dollars on crazy decorations. These provide fun, easy, and cheap alternatives that allow you to show your holiday spirit on a budget!
